Park Spring is a 3-turbine wind farm located east of Barnsley in South Yorkshire and was constructed in 2015. It has a generating capacity of 8.55MW, which has the estimated ability to power 5,000 homes. The individual turbine rating is 2.85MW, with a 75m hub height, 103m diameter blades and a tip height of 126.5m.

CHP was involved from initial investment appraisal stage to close out of the final accounts. CHP provided construction related cost planning, cost management and cost reporting services and managed the procurement of the Balance of Plant works contractors. CHP was responsible for the commercial management of all construction operations.

Challenges

The turbine supplier was new to the EDF UK fleet and specialist temporary and permanent construction measures needed to be implemented. The presence of previous coal mining activities on the site required foundation solutions to be developed and implemented to address the geotechnical conditions
