Beck Burn is a 9-turbine wind farm situated in Gretna, Cumbria, England. The site’s generating capacity is 31.05MW, which has been estimated to provide power for around 18,000 homes per year. This project was commissioned in March 2015. The site was able to take advantage of advanced technology turbines. The individual turbine rating is 3.45MW, with a 74m hub height, 105m diameter blades and a tip heights of 126.5m.

CHP was involved from initial investment appraisal stage through to close out of the final accounts. CHP provided construction related cost planning, cost management and cost reporting services. CHP managed the procurement of the Balance of Plant works contractors and was responsible for the commercial management of all construction operations.

Achievements

Delivery of the project to the safety, cost, time and quality requirements of the client, without disruption to the operation of the existing wind farm

Challenges

Construction works undertaken of the peat extraction business, with non exclusive possession of the site. The site required innovative solutions for the construction of access tracks and crane hardstandings in areas of deep peat
